Cloud Innovation in the UK Legal Sector

Monica Brink

IT has become increasingly important to the legal sector. After all, if IT is not running, the lawyers are not billing. Cloud adoption is also increasing amongst UK law firms and, recently, this has extended to small and medium law firms, often with the help of IT Service Providers. One such company delivering IT innovation to the legal and professional services sector is Wavex, a London based IT Services Provider that is partnering with iland to deliver secure cloud hosting and disaster recovery services to clients.

Our iland CTO, Justin Giardina, recently wrote about the threats and means of remediating them in CloudTech - check out his article here.  Justin will be also be joining the Chief Cybersecurity Officer of Trend Micro, Ed Cabrera, to deliver a webinar on this topic - don't miss it:

Cloud Gatherings Across The UK

Monica Brink

It's been a busy week for the UK iland team - we attended 2 events in regional UK and spent a lot of time talking with IT folks about cloud hosting, disaster recovery and backup, security, cloud management and more.

The first event was hosted by one of our iland resellers who are leaders in driving cloud adoption - the ComputerWorld Define Tomorrow event in Bristol. Around 200 IT professionals attended and were keen to discuss details of cloud solutions - particularly Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS). At this event, our own iland Solutions Architect, Sam Woodcock, had the opportunity to demo onstage the iland and Zerto DRaaS solution. Unfortunately, during the demo, a server was hacked and attacked by ransomware (shock, horror!).

UK Survey Shows Long Way to Go on DR Testing

Monica Brink

In our recent survey on IT Disaster Recovery in the UK, we were keen to include questions on DR testing.  This is one of the most important considerations when implementing a cloud-based disaster recovery solution and, indeed, can make or break the success of any DR strategy.  The mantra that our Solutions Architects like to use is: 'a DR solution is only as good as the quality of your testing'.

Recovery Times - Key to any DR Plan

Monica Brink

With iland having worked with customers on their DR strategies for the past 10 years now, one of the most important aspects of DR planning that we focus on is recovery times. At first glance, it seems obvious - recovery times should be as fast as possible for all workloads at all times. However, the speed of recovery needs to be balanced against other factors in the DR deciscion landscape such as costs, prioritisation of workloads and customer and business impact. In our recent survey on 'The State of IT Disaster Recovery in the UK' , when asked about how quickly their employees would be able to access IT systems following a disaster, respondents reported the following:

DRaaS for my home town please!

Monica Brink

Headlines about companies facing dramatic IT outages that have catastrophic effects on their businesses and bottom lines are everywhere these days. And, most of us take a cursory look at these headlines, wonder in amazement how this could happen (didn't they have a DR plan in place!?) and then thank our lucky stars that we weren't personally affected.
