Industry Analyst: The Uberfication of Cloud

Dante Orsini

We recently hosted a reception and panel discussion for senior IT executives at the Soho Hotel as part of London Technology Week. Our keynote speaker was William Fellows, Research Vice President of 451 Research. William talked about the key business and technology issues that were likely to play a large part in the future of organizations as they continue to migrate to the cloud. In particular, he shared with us his views around best practices for service provider evaluation. He said that IaaS was not enough, providers also need to host and manage their cloud services better, and customers should avoid vendor lock in. He also talked about the importance of enterprise engagement along with the provision of secure services at reasonable price points to avoid runaway costs.

Get immediate access to global hybrid cloud with iland-enabled Cisco Intercloud Fabric

Dante Orsini

It happens too often to count. A company looks to adopt hybrid cloud as a means to increase agility within their IT operation, but they get stuck in the implementation stage. They have to fight for control of their environment because the majority of cloud providers don’t offer the same level of visibility teams are accustomed to from their on-premise resources. They struggle to maintain consistent network and security policies. And migration is a bigger headache than expected.

Why weathering the storm is worth it

Dante Orsini

Do you ever feel like you are caught in a tornado? Constantly striving to improve and stay ahead of seemingly endless lists of projects and deliverables can certainly wear on the best of us. But these turbulent periods can also be the most rewarding because nothing pushes you to forge ahead quite like hearing that all of your hard work is valued by others. This is particularly true when the validation comes from those who are stuck in their own tornado, and you’ve helped calm their storm a bit.

Don’t believe the FUD – Public cloud visibility is real

Dante Orsini

It seems like almost every week, I read yet another article about the lack of control and inability to manage resources in public clouds. The issue is pervasive because many providers – particularly the big box cloud vendors – are pushing public cloud infrastructure that is not particularly focused on maintaining consistent performance. And what about consumption? Good luck understanding who is actually utilizing the resources, which can make for a very alarming bill at the end of the month! Wouldn’t it be nice if you could understand the billing and even the utilization so you can better manage your projects and performance?

You Don’t Need to Sacrifice Transparency in the Public Cloud

Dante Orsini

It’s now possible to get the same visibility in the public cloud that you have in your own data center – or even better. Sound too good to be true? It’s not. You no longer have to sacrifice transparency and control in return for agility, scalability, and the improved performance found in an enterprise public cloud.
