My colleague Will Urban and I recently presented a webinar entitled “Simplifying Data Protection in the Cloud” (replay here). We spent time reviewing iland’s view on the importance of data protection in 2019 – but more importantly demonstrated (h/t to Will!) just how easy it can be with iland Secure Cloud Console.
I encourage you to watch the demonstration yourself, but to quickly recap:
The risk of data loss and downtime has increased. As we discussed, this isn’t just because of natural disasters or cyber threats. Though, unfortunately, both of those risks have also increased in recent years. No, rather, it’s because of human error. And there is a very logical explanation for this. When things get more complex (I am looking at you multi-cloud world) we humans show that, well, we are human after all. It’s natural. But we have to protect against it for the sake of the business.
The impact to the business of data loss and downtime has also increased. For years, the cost and risk of downtime has been evaluated as a calculation of downtime minutes x $USD – in other words, customers needed to evaluate the cost of downtime, adjusted for the cost of preventing downtime. Does it make sense?
Well today, the money variable is no longer enough. We have now seen major reputational damage as a result of data loss and downtime. Hard to put a number on that, but we can all agree if you are in an industry that really needs to protect data (like banks, credit card companies, and healthcare providers) – it’s bad.
Our recommendation? Find a great data protection software provider (our friends at Veeam and Zerto are both great choices depending on your requirements) and get backing up and replicating today.
And when you look for a data protection target – cloud or on-premises – look for a provider that can bring it all together in a single console. Because, yes, data protection in the cloud can be simple.
