Cloud Takes Over Traditional IT

Monica Brink

It's finally happened - although many of us in the cloud industry won't necessarily be surprised. A recent study by 451 Research has indicated that spending on cloud services will outstrip that of overall IT spending this year. The study was based on a survey of 1,000 senior IT and cloud decision-makers from North America and Europe across small, medium, large and very large organizations in both the public and private sectors.

The Challenges for MSPs Working with the Cloud

Richard Stinton

Over the past few years, Managed Service Providers have been faced with a number of important decisions about how they continue to operate and differentiate their businesses with the rise of public cloud services.

The MSP (and outsourcing) model has traditionally been based on the premise of being able to operate and manage a customer’s IT services in a more cost-efficient manner than they could do it themselves. This may have been by bringing in a team to augment or replace the IT department using the customer’s equipment on-premises, or, perhaps, by transforming the IT infrastructure to the MSP's own facilities.

Safe Harbor Update: Privacy Shield Agreement

Frank Krieger

Ever since last year’s nullification of the US-EU Safe Harbor agreement, both sides of the Atlantic have been eagerly awaiting a new framework; without a new agreement, business on both sides would have been nearly totally disrupted! It looked like on Tuesday we were going to have an utter collapse with both the EU Commission and US Department of Commerce giving very loud warnings, but at the last second, a new framework was announced: the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield.

Hedging your bets on cloud providers

Monica Brink

As cloud usage matures and companies rely more and more on cloud computing to speed app deployment,  drive innovation and keep the business running,  focus is turning to how companies can implement the ideal cloud provider strategy. After all,  there’s a lot of choice in cloud service providers out there – we at iland know this which is why we’ve worked hard to differentiate ourselves based on customer service, intuitive management, uptime and security. For many larger organizations, a dual-provider cloud strategy makes sense.

Reaching the Clouds: Access is Key

Lilac Schoenbeck

There is a running joke in Boston, where I live, that when someone gives you a destination, the only response is “You can’t get there from here.”   (apparently the origins are in Maine, but it applies equally well to Boston geography)

Compliance in the Cloud: Survey says – Fraught!

Lilac Schoenbeck

In the final blog in our series on our recent Forrester survey, I’d like to cover compliance.  In past blogs we covered transparency, support, and a customer’s take on the situation. Now, let’s talk about the hard truths on compliance.

The most entertaining cloud webinar of the summer

Lilac Schoenbeck

When was the last time you enjoyed a cloud webinar? Never? Once, that one time… with the Dopplegangers? Right. Your skepticism is merited. I’m with you.

But listen – we’re doing a good one. And not just the Lilac show — we have real talent this time, in the form of Dave Bartoletti, of Forrester Research. Now, I’ve known Dave since before “cloud” was a term you hated. And, he brings a few great things to any webinar:

Survey Says: Enterprise Cloud Support isn’t Secondary

Lilac Schoenbeck

I've previously blogged about lacking cloud transparency revealed by our recent survey with Forrester Consulting. The second area we looked at in our survey of 275 cloud leaders around the world was support.

Support is always a sure-fire hit when asking questions about technology. Rarely is support an area where customers feel comfortable, perhaps because our industry is remarkably bad at support (or perhaps, overly cost-concious?), or perhaps because any frustration with the product manifests as a support issue. But, while it feels like asking about support is like shooting fish in a barrel, the survey did deliver some fine insights - and one troubling one.

Your cloud metadata is your own

Lilac Schoenbeck

There’s a lot of hype around general metadata in the media. In fact, it’s somewhat painful listening to broadcast journalists wax poetic about technology like that. And yet, there is a kernel of truth under it all – not only is your data your own, but the data about your data should probably be yours too. Or you should at least get to see it.

Secrets Kept by Cloud Providers are Threatening Business [INFOGRAPHIC]

Lilac Schoenbeck

We recently conducted a survey of experienced cloud executives with the help of Forrester Consulting. The full results can be found in Is Your Cloud Provider Keeping Secrets? Get a taste of the results in the infographic below.

In a sense, it's a bit meta - the survey, fundamentally, said you need actionable data about your cloud workloads - metadata, if you will - presented clearly. And so, we felt it appropriate to present the survey results in an actionable, clear, and also aesthetically-appealing way. Enjoy!
