UK Survey Shows Long Way to Go on DR Testing

In our recent survey on IT Disaster Recovery in the UK, we were keen to include questions on DR testing.  This is one of the most important considerations when implementing a cloud-based disaster recovery solution and, indeed, can make or break the success of any DR strategy.  The mantra that our Solutions Architects like to use is: 'a DR solution is only as good as the quality of your testing'.

UK Cloud Adoption post Brexit - Keep Calm & Carry On?

Last Friday, we held our London Tech Week Panel Session on UK Cloud adoption and, while many in the audience were bleary-eyed and a little shell-shocked after staying up late to watch the results of the EU referendum, we had an engaging panel discussion about where we're currently at with UK cloud adoption and where we're heading. Not that any of our panelists - which included cloud experts from techUK, Cisco, Behind Every Cloud and the iland customer Bluestone Financial Services - pretended to have deep insights about how the UK cloud industry landscape would change post-Brexit. They were still digesting the news just like everyone else and acknowledged that there are currently more questions than answers.

Eyes Wide Open to Cloud Security Challenges in the UK

IT leaders in the UK are clearly going in with their eyes wide open to the security and compliance challenges associated with cloud adoption - and this bodes well for increasing levels of cloud usage in the future.

You're probably not surprised to learn that a recent study of 400 senior IT decision makers from medium and large organisations in the UK, France and Germany found that new cloud-based solutions (56 percent) and data security (50 percent) are the key areas of investment for IT departments in the UK this year.

Safe Harbor Isn't Over: Steps You Can Take

As was covered previously, there is a new Safe Harbor agreement tentatively in place called EU-U.S. Privacy Shield, which is being reviewed for approval by the Article 29 Working Party . We also know that there are already folks out there looking to take the new framework to court within the EU, which may result in another nullification if the EU Courts feel that the privacy controls are still not addressed.

Safe Harbor Update: Privacy Shield Agreement

Ever since last year’s nullification of the US-EU Safe Harbor agreement, both sides of the Atlantic have been eagerly awaiting a new framework; without a new agreement, business on both sides would have been nearly totally disrupted! It looked like on Tuesday we were going to have an utter collapse with both the EU Commission and US Department of Commerce giving very loud warnings, but at the last second, a new framework was announced: the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield.
